Chailey Parish Magazine notes in December 1918 that Private J Gadd is serving with the 9th Royal Sussex Regiment.  This information is then repeated monthly up to and including the final published roll call in July 1919.

J Gadd is almost certainly G/7968 Pte John Gadd; this service number falling within the allocation of numbers issued to 9th Battalion men.

He may be the same John Gadd who appears on the 1901 census as a five year old born in Dallington, East Sussex and living in the same village with his parents John and Louise Gadd and his eleven year old sister Edith.
